Fauxhawk....really?

Easton and Mackenzie
Easton and Bryce

So Easton, our 13 year old, came home from school a couple of days ago and said he had won 'Best Hair' for the yearbook. Really? I started to laugh and completely thought he was kidding. He's been wearing this funny 'Fauxhawk' that I've been making fun of for a couple of weeks. The first time he wore it I thought it must be spirit day or something, but then he wore it again. I asked a couple of girls his age at the football game about it....they all nodded in agreement, 'yes it's cool, and they liked it', they all sorta giggled and said he looked cute. I knew then, the hairstyle was not going away. I guess that shows what I know...

Happy Birthday to you...

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Mattie!!!
Happy 17th Birthday to you.

Mattie is one of my co-captains this year and today is her 17th birthday!!! I've known Mattie since she was born and watched her grow up into an amazing talented young woman in EVERY way!!! I can't wait to see what she accomplishs in the next 17 YEARS.

A 'Shout Out' to Dr. Dave

So our very best friends in the whole world our having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week and I can't stop thinking about them so I will blog. If you know David and Peggy Earl you will know that what they are going through right now is WRONG and UNFAIR!!! David is one of the kindest, most compassionate, happiest, friendliest, generous, positive people you will ever meet---he is only out done in everything by his wife, who is the smartest, kindest, funniest most creative person I know. David and Peggy would give you the shirt off their back, their car to drive, their house to live in and even throw in a kid or two if needed. They have done just that and more for us. He is free with his advice, his help, his money, his belongings and anything else you might need. The only thing David asks in return is that you let him make the rules, put him on the winning team, and take a few bites off your plate. He treats everyone he meets as long last family and doesn't know any strangers. He is not prejudice or stingy with his time or his information and shares whatever he has and more. He has met every medical need we have had over the last 17 years with empathy and concern. We love you David and Peggy!

Words of Wisdom

General Conference is my favorite weekend two times a year. Who wouldn't like waking up late, staying in your pj's and watching church together as a family in front of the tv with a warm blanket and some delicious snacks? I feel so inspired and love the words of wisdom our great church leaders share with us everytime. They announced 5 new temples in Calgary, Canada, Cordoba, Argentina, greater Kansas City, Philadelphia, and Rome, Italy. There are 128 operating temples and another 17 in some phase of planning or construction bringing the total to 145. It seems like just yesterday went President Hinckley made a goal to have 100 temples.

This conference seemed to leave a message of 'hope' for all saints in these hard economic times. President Monson's words were so hopeful as he talked about change and that nothing is as constant as change. Yet he encouraged us to act now and do what we know is right. "Day by day, minute by minute we go from where we were to where we are now...This is our one and only chance at mortal life. Opportunities come and then they are gone." Am I making the most of it? There is no tomorrow to remember, if we don't do something today. Elder Oaks reminded us that 'if we are prepared we shall not fear'. There is no trial or pain so great that the Atonement of Christ cannot heal.

I loved all the talks, but a couple of my favorites were M. Russell Ballard as he talked about missionary work. This year marked the millionth missionary to go out in the church in our dispensation. Quinn is one of those 1,000,000 that has served in God's army as he faithfully teaches in Tanna, Vanuatu. Even though it is hard times, Elder Ballard reminded us that 'this is God's great work and God's work will not be frustrated.' I loved Sister Dalton's talk as she reminded the youth to 'return to virtue'. I am so proud of my daughter Mackenzie and all her friends. They are virtuous, lovely, strong young woman who are quietly living their standards. They stand for righteousness and are beautiful on the inside and out.

I Found It.....

So If you read my post about Mackenzie's homecoming date and my first date I found the picture of 'cuzzy' and the ugly mustard yellow sweater. I think I may have spoke too soon, because the way I am looking I think I may have deserved the ugly mustard yellow sweater and the date with 'cuzzy'. For the life of me I cannot remember his real name. I thought it would be fun to post the picture and I decided to post Reid's first Homecoming date as well. His date is Sara Jones. (Don't tell him, because he did not want it on the internet, but isn't he so cute!!)

Like mother, like daughter....

My daughter Danielle is pregnant and expecting a baby girl on February 13th. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about it. I can't keep myself out of the children's department at any store and I have made countless baby bracelet's and bows. A girl can't have too many right? I thought it would be fun to post a picture of myself and Danielle as a baby....just to give them an idea of what might be coming. Like mother, like daughter.....

Do you remember?

The luckiest boys in the world

I'm waiting up for Mackenzie to come home from her very first high school dance. I love waiting up for the kids and listening to them tell the details of their evening. For some reason they are much more talkative after midnight, compared to 9:00 a.m. Because Mackenzie's birthday is in June she spent her sophomore year watching her friends go to dances. Tonight it's her turn. It's homecoming and she got asked a few weeks ago by Lewis Bruneel. Tonight she looked so beautiful and I have to say her date didn't look to bad either (yes, he really is 16).

I can honestly remember my first date to Homecoming my sophomore year like it was yesterday. It happened to fall exactly on my birthday and my sister lined me up on a blind date with her boyfriend's cousin. He came to the door and all I can remember was what an ugly mustard yellow sweater he was wearing. I remember thinking I hope its hot inside the dance so he has to take the sweater off. Dinner was painful and I think he may have said 5 words. My sister and her boyfriend did not double with us... We arrived early to the dance and watched the band finish setting up. (Yes, in those days they had live bands, and you actually danced the whole evening with the boy that asked you to the dance....) After being at the dance for about a half hour, I went to the bathroom and when I was zipping up my dress the zipper broke and I was stranded in the bathroom. Someone went out and found my date and told him the situation and they came back in with his ugly mustard yellow sweater to wear over my dress with the broken zipper. What a night. I hope Mackenzie's evening goes better than mine.
